Making a Paper Kite Video - By Helen Howes

The making and flying of kites has fascinated people since its invention by the Chinese approximately 2800 years ago.  Originally they would have been made of paper or silk and bamboo and now out of specialist kite fabric.  However, you can have great fun out and start of a new hobby by simply making one out of paper and it will fly.  This video show Helen making a kite from a sheet of A4 paper and some simple objects.

Once you have built your kite remember to stand with the wind behind you in a clear space away from buildings, trees, power and telephone cables etc.
Let the wind lift your kite away from you and let out line as it goes.  When the kite rises, let out line, if it falls, pull the line in a little until the kite rises again. If it whizzes about and crashes, it is too windy. If it will not go up, there is not enough wind.  Try again later.  If the kite lands, go and collect it – it will not like being dragged along the ground.

Do not run with the kite.

Do not fly the kite on the road, near airfields, or power lines, or in the rain and take care not to get in other peoples way when you fly

If you look after your kite and keep it dry, it will fly many times and give you lots of fun.
